OVERVIEW

Curated by Joachim Pissarro and Arturo Galansino, the exhibition presents a diverse collection of Jeff Koons’ most iconic works, tracing his artistic journey from the mid-1970s to 2021. Renowned for both his influence and controversy, Koons emerges through this showcase as a defining figure in contemporary art, now brought into the heart of Florence with a fresh perspective.

THE CONCEPT

Developed in close partnership with Jeff Koons himself, the exhibition Jeff Koons: Shine gathers major loans from leading museums and private collections around the world to explore one of the artist’s central themes: The concept of "shine." This multifaceted idea lies at the heart of Koons' practice, embodying the tension between appearance and reality, surface and depth, perception and truth.

Renowned for blending high art with pop culture, Koons creates sculptures and installations that draw from both art history and the language of consumerism. His works challenge traditional boundaries, engaging viewers in a dialogue about value, beauty, and authenticity. The notion of "shine" becomes a metaphor for this duality—inviting reflection, both literal and metaphorical. In many ways, Koons art functions like a mirror, placing the viewer at the center of the experience and prompting a deeper consideration of self and surroundings.

"Art functions as an interface between our internal life and the external world. Art is our reaction to being. Our gestures, our clawing, our graffiti marks, our mark-making experience accumulates to define our culture."
